- Community ChatMy great uncle was Halvor Berg, he had the store, PO, and other interests in the past at Quatsino's beginning. We have sent some of his carvings and a book of poems etc. to the museum in the past. My cousin just passed, and she had a interictally carved jewelry box that her family would like to give to the museum. I no longer have names or addresses so could someone please send me information as to who to contact in relationship to the museum. Thank you. Don ReiersonLike

- AnnouncementsGreetings Quatsino ! We are off to a good start and it is exciting to think that Quatsino Days starts in a week from today! 25 of people have already signed up for the Community BBQ and Fishing Derby. There are likely many of you who plan to sign up but haven’t done so yet. To help with BBQ planning and grocery shopping, it would be helpful to know how many people we are going to feed and entertain. If you have been waiting to sign up and buy tickets, please take the time to do it today which will help us prepare for a fun and memorable event. Hopefully you have seen some of the pictures of the fabulous prize packages for the Derby. Another reminder to buy your tickets now for the Quatsino Days Community BBQ and or to participate in the Fishing Derby. All community members and their guests are welcome to join in the fun. Tickets for yourself, family and friends are $15 a per person, children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased by emailing and e-transferring to quatsinodays@gmail.com. Each ticket entitles a person to a meal at the Community BBQ and allows them to participate in the Fishing Derby. The family friendly and alcohol-free BBQ will be held from 4 to 6 pm at the Quatsino School on Saturday July 2nd. Hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, pop and cotton candy will be served. Additional items from a bake sale will also be available. The Fishing Derby begins at 9 am on Monday June 27th, and continues until the BBQ on July 2nd. All you need to participate in the Fishing Derby is a Quatsino Days ticket and a valid fishing license. All fishing should take place in and around Quatsino Sound. Prizes for the fishing Derby will be awarded by random draw at the Community BBQ Each angler, regardless of age or size of fish they catch, has an equal chance of winning the fishing rod prize in the five different categories. Anglers are only allowed to enter one ticket per category when they catch a fish of that type. Record your catch by posting your pictures to the Quatsino Life Facebook page for all your friends to see and comment on. The five prize categories include; 1) Spring Salmon, 2) Coho Salmon, 3) Halibut, 4) Ling Cod and 5) Other (??). See posted photos for more detail on the fishing rod that will be awarded to the winner of each category. A hearty shout out to John Retallack, a former Quatsino resident and Kagoagh Lodge for their donation of fishing gear for this year’s prizes. Quatsino Days greatly appreciates the generous support and donations made by the Sweeney Family, Gina Chae and Tyler Halls, Ed Handja, Shelley McKay and Greg du Cloux of the BC Oceanfront Real Estate Team, Sandra Masales and Sarah Baron of Advance Realty and Josh and Katie with Old Quatsino Falling. The only competitive event during the Derby will be the ‘Best Fishing Story’ told at the Community BBQ. The winner will be chosen by the audience. Just as many good fishing stories from the past, Derby Fishing Stories do not have to be based on fact or truth and names of individuals involved may be changed to protect the innocent. The more laughs the better. Other events occurring during Quatsino Days include; • Art show and silent auction at the Quatsino Library & Living Room Kelp Cafe which will be open for extended hours during the week. • A Nature Scavenger Hunt on Friday July 1st at 10 am for all scavengers 12 years and younger. • The Quatsino Museum will be open from 10am to 2 pm on Friday July 1st through Sunday July 3rd. • Colony Lake Nature Trail Hike at 10 am on Sunday July 3rd. • For those people who don’t want to cook, Kagoagh Lodge is inviting community members to a buffet dinner on Sunday night at 5:30, reservations are required, Contact Gina to learn more about the menu and cost of the meal.Like
