The Quatsino Volunteer Fire Brigade will host a Lunch Concession on Saturday & Sunday.

Proceeds from this Derby will go to the “Quatsino Museum Project” and
 the “Salvation Army Lighthouse Resource Centre” in Port Hardy.

5th Annual - Quatsino Sound Fishing Derby - Derby Rules and DFO Information

Starts at dawn on Saturday July 31st & ends Sunday August 1st at 1:00pm.

Derby Information;
• This family event is being held as a fundraiser for the “Quatsino Museum Project” and the
“Salvation Army Lighthouse Resource Centre”.
• Fishing boundaries for this derby are; Zone 27 and 127 - EXCEPT in Holberg Inlet and Varney Bay where DFO has a conservation closure for all finfish.
• Only FOUR fish per ticket can be entered in the Derby. You may replace a previous entry with a larger fish if you choose.
• NOTE: DFO’s non-retention of SPRING (Chinook) order will be in effect on Sunday, August 1st in all Quatsino Sound waters that lie east of a line drawn from Cliff Point to a boundary marker on the opposite shore.
• There are 4 prize categories;
[1]- SPRING (Chinook);..DFO’s catch limit 2 per day, only 1 greater than 77 cm (2 ½ ft.),
minimum length 45cm (18 in.). Possession limit of 4.
[2]- COHO; ……………..DFO’s catch limit 2 per day, minimum length 30 cm (12 in.).
Possession limit of 4.
[3]- HALIBUT; ………...DFO’s catch limit 1 per day. Possession limit of 2.
[4]-“OTHER”;
-Lingcod;…..……….DFO’s catch limit 3 per day, minimum length 65cm (26 in.).
-Pink & Chum;……..DFO’s catch limit 4 per day, minimum length 30cm (12 in.)
-Rockfish;……..…... DFO’s catch limit 3 per day, only 2 of which may be Yellow Eye.
Possession limit in total is 6.
- etc [Atlantic, Flounder, Trout, …]
• NOTE: DFO’s total combined DAILY catch limit of ALL SALMON SPECIES is 4.

The Weigh-in Station at the Quatsino Government Wharf will be open Saturday from 9:00am until 9:00pm and on Sunday from 9:00am until 1:00pm.
Only Derby Ticket holders waiting in line at 1:00pm Sunday will have their catches weighted. Please leave plenty of time to enter your catch!

• Have your Derby Ticket ready when weighing in so we can track your entries.
• Derby Weigh-in Volunteers have the right to refuse any entries if deemed necessary.
• The Quatsino Volunteer Fire Brigade’s Concession will be open Saturday from 10:00am until 8:00pm on the Government Wharf and Sunday from 11:00am until 2:00pm at Quatsino School.
• Enter your Derby Tickets for Adult or “Derby Kid” (12 & younger) Ticket Draw Prizes.
• The Awards Presentation will be held at Quatsino School and will begin as soon as all entries are logged in and winners recorded.
• Derby Volunteers and Sponsors accept no responsibility for loss or injury during the derby or at the awards event.
